It is no surprise that Miss Philippines Catriona Gray’s evening gown takes front and center of her Preliminary Competition performance. The Ibong Adarna inspired gown with its fiery orange fully beaded with Swarovski details is everything!
Noticeably missing is an attention-grabbing detail that catapulted Catriona to her Best in Long Gown is the ear cuffs Gray wore at the national final.
Fast forward to the 2018 Miss Universe Preliminary Evening Gown competition, not many noticed the subtle earrings worn by Catriona Gray to complement her evening gown.

Cheers to another patriotic jewelry designed by our very own @catriona_gray 👑 Introducing our latest PEARL OF THE ORIENT dangling earrings. This dangling earrings were inspired by Philippines' popular title "The Pearl of the Orient/Perlas ng Silangan". Let us all give our continuous love and support to our Ms. Universe, Catriona Gray. We're all very proud of you and we will always have your back ☀️💎🇵🇭 CATRIONA X TESSERA
Designed by the Filipina delegate herself, the aptly-named “Pearl of the Orient” dangling earrings follows the motif of the Filipino flag, deriving from it the eight ray sun while the three precious stones symbolize the three stars. The dangling earrings were made for Catriona by Tessera Jewelry.
Compared to the iconic earcuffs also designed by Catriona and created by Tessera jewelry, the “Pearl of the Orient” earrings are very subtle. A lot of people agree that while her Phoenix gown is better compared to the national final, her look is a lot subtler.
It seemed as if Catriona Gray and her team deliberately held back at the 2018 Preliminary Competition. They understand that Gray has to peak at the right time and place and that is during the Coronation Night.
We are expecting to see a more iconic look come December 17. 👑
