The pageant community was suprised when Hemilyn Escudero-Tamayo announced her resignation as the President of the Mutya ng Pilipinas organization, one of the oldest and prestigious beauty pageants in the country.
In a statement sent to the media, Tamayo said “I’d like to thank everyone for supporting Mutya ng Pilipinas and me especially during our 50th Anniversary Celebration;
“It is with a heavy heart though that I have recently tendered my resignation as President. I still wish the very best for Mutya which I have considered family through the years. Thank you and God Bless,” she said. Hemilyn did not give any reason about her resignation.
On July 2017, Hemilyn was appointed as the president of the Mutya ng Pilipinas organization where she replaced Jacqueline Tan, who is now the president of the Miss Asia Pacific International beauty pageant.
The Mutya ng Pilipinas beauty pageant is the closest rival of the Binibining Pilipinas when it comes to longevity and prestige since the pageant was founded on 1968.
Two beauty queens were crowned in the international scene during her term as president, Jannie Alipo-on as Miss Tourism International on 2017 and Muslim teacher, Sharifa Akeel who is the reigning Miss Asia Pacific International.
Before she became the president of the organization, Hemilyn was also a product of the beauty pageant as she was part of the Top 10 on 2005 and had the opportunity to represent the country at the Miss Globe International pageant in Tirana, Albania on the same year.
The Qrown Philippines congratulates Mrs. Hemilyn Escudero-Tamayo for being passionate and dedicated in her works as the president of the Mutya ng Pilipinas organization. We wish her the best on her future endeavors in life.
