GMA 7 actress Marian Rivera will fly to Israel to be part of the selection committee in the 70th Miss Universe pageant.
The actress made the confirmation herself during an interview on 24 Oras Friday, December 3.
Sobrang happy ako kasi s’yempre minsan lang mabigyan ng pagkakataon na makabilang ka sa isang mahalagang okasyon sa buong mundo,” the actress said.
(I am very happy because it’s a once in a lifetime to attend an important event watched around the world.)
Kaya nung i-noffer ito , buong puso ko siyang tinanggap.” (So when this was offered to me, I wholeheartedly accepted it.)
Marian said that she will definitely be appreciating all the women who flew from all over the world for the contest as well as their courage despite the world still battling a pandemic.
Mag-jujudge man ako pero and pananaw ko dito nandoon ako para ma-appreciate at masaksihan ko and kagandahan ng mga kababaihan sa buong mundo. Siguro hindi lang yung kagandahan nila pati na rin yung katapangan nila na maibalik yung humanity sa ating mundo.”
(I’ll be judging but from my perspective, I am there to appreciate and see all the beautiful women around the world. It’s not just about beauty but also the courage they have to bring back the humanity within.)
When asked who will dress her up for the competition, no less than Francis Libiran will be dressing her up.
The actress earlier gave a hint about her participation by posting a photo with the caption “honored” followed by the crown and universe emojis plus a hashtag. grateful. Husband Dingdong Dantes also chimed in saying “Miss U.”
Marian, dubbed as GMA’s Primetime Queen rose to fame when she landed the role of GMA’s Filipino adaptation of Marimar in 2007. Other shows such as Darna, Endless Love, Dyesebel, and Amaya followed and made Marian popular in several Asian countries.
The actress, who is also seen as the host of Tadhana is also a sought-after endorser and entrepreneur with her floral business FloraVida. She and Dingdong Dantes have two kids – Zia and Sixto.
She is also known for her philanthropy work. She serves as one of Smile Train’s ambassadors in the Philippines and has worked with the Make-A-Wish Philippines Foundation.
Marian is the latest Filipino to judge the pageant. Previous Filipino judges include singer Kuh Ledesma, boxing champion and senator Manny Pacquiao, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, fashion designer Monique Lhullier, and Tony and Laurence Olivier award-winner Lea Salonga.
The country’s representative, Beatrice Luigi Gomez hopes to capture the country’s 5th crown. The pageant is scheduled for December 13, Manila time.
