The city of New Orleans in Louisiana, USA will be the host of the 71st Miss Universe pageant. The organization made the announcement on Monday, September 19 on its social media accounts.
“The moment you’ve been waiting for… The #71stMISSUNIVERSE Competition is heading to… NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA!”
The pageant will be held on Monday, January 15, Manila time.
Harnaaz Sandhu of India will pass on her crown to one of more than 80 candidates who will vie for the title. The Philippines’ representative hopes to become the 5th Filipina to win the title.
Known for its Mardi Gras, Creole and Cajun food, and live music scene, New Orleans is also home to the famous French Quarter. According to the New Orleans website, the French Quarter is often depicted as the ” Crown Jewel of New Orleans.” The city is also known for its jazz music scene.
Prior to the announcement, Miss Universe Organization president Paula Shugart earlier hinted that the host city is known for its tourism, food, and culture.
The last time Miss Universe held the pageant in the US was during the 69th edition in 2021 where Andrea Meza of Mexico won.
