The 28 candidates of Miss Universe Philippines 2021 showed their respective national costumes by the country’s top designers in a video aired on Empire Philippines Thursday, September 23.
This year’s theme pays homage to the Philippine Carnival Queens. The video was shot at the Clark International airport last week.
Unlike previous years, the Miss Universe Philippines organization opted for a music video feel instead of the usual show.
“For the National Costume presentation, we wanted a fresher and younger vibe by doing a fashion music video,” said MUPH Communications director Voltaire Tayag. “We featured modernized forms of the Manila Carnival Queen theme that all the ladies were required to have. Having a mix of old traditions presented in a new way makes for a more interesting experience. You can watch it repeatedly like a music fashion video.”
The song “Kulay” was performed by rising Filipino group BGYO.
The preliminary interview will be aired on Friday, September 24 with the preliminary competition scheduled for September 26.
