Celebrating her first moments in the Philippines as Miss Universe, Catriona Gray meets the out-of-school children of Young Focus, a charity organization in Tondo.
Flying with Gray on a private plane were Miss Universe sponsor and former governor Luis Chavit Singson and his daughter, Richelle Singson-Michael.
Asked why she is not wearing her Miss universe crown and sash, Gray revealed that her short visit is not an part of her official mission as representative of the Miss Universe Organization (MUO).
Before Gray flies to New York later today to start her reign, she is scheduled to attend a charity event in a hotel at Bonifacio Global city.
Mum over certain hosting details, Richelle said that no press conference will be held Gray’s short stay in the country.
“The press conference, the parade for Catriona will be held sometime in January 2019,” Richelle said.
Asked if she will be the new head of Miss Universe Philippines franchise, Richelle said: “Wala pang ganun usapan.”
New franchise holder?
The speculation on whether the Singsons are the new owners of the Miss Universe Philippines franchise surfaced after the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) are silent on Catriona’s arrival.
After 54 years years of owning the Miss Universe Philippines franchise, Binibining Pilipinas Charities Incorporated (BPCI) have produced four winners at the Miss Universe pageant. They are Gloria Diaz (1969), Margarita Moran (1973), Pia Wurtzbach (2015) and most recently, Catriona Gray (2016).
When sought for official comment, officials of the BPCI were silent about this issue.
