Three women brought pride and glory to the Philippines making headlines as show stoppers for reputable fashion events around the world.
Elevating the Philippine fashion industry to a whole new level, Filipinos are no longer known just for famed designers in the name of Michael Cinco or Monique Lhuliier.
Now, even our models are gaining recognition from various fashion houses and international events outside the Philippines. After Pia Wurtzbach and Maureen Wroblewitz won Miss Universe 2015, and Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 5, Filipina models are now more recognized.
This year, at least three models carried the Filipino pride in the runway. They are Catriona Gray, Kelsey Merritt and Maymay Entrata.
Catriona Gray at the New York Fashion Week
The New York Fashion Week (NYFW) is one of the biggest fashion event in the entire world. Walking for Sherri Hill, Catriona Gray surprised everyone when she flew to New York to walk for the famed Miss Universe sponsor.
The best thing about this is that she becomes the first Filipina to be invited by the brand even sans the Miss Universe title. This cements the thoughts of pageant observers from around the world that Catriona Gray is the girl to beat come Miss Universe coronation in Bangkok, Thailand.
Kelsey Merritt at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
In one of the more storied rise to fashion stardom, Kelsey Merritt realized her dream which she had tweeted a year ago. In her tweet, she channeled the law of attraction saying that one day she will walk for the Victoria’s Secret fashion brand.
Walk, she did. She made Filipinos around the world proud as she walked for the Pink segment. Also, a lot of publicity materials published by the brand has her face on it. Even the official teaser began and ended with her walk as she strut through the street of New York carrying angel wings on her back.
Insiders are saying that it wouldn’t come as a surprise if Merritt achieves angel status early than most models.
Maymay Entrata at the Arab Fashion Week
Filipino personality Maymay Entrata was invited by Amato Couture to be part of the Arab Fashion Week. She makes history by being the first Filipina to have graced the Arab Fashion Week let alone open it.
Trending worldwide on Twitter with at least 1 million tweets within a seven-hour time frame, Maymay Entrata’s milestone-in-the-making walk was well-received by Filipinos all over the world.
As the year closes, The Qrown hopes to see more Filipinos recognized in the international fashions scene. For now, let’s thank everyone who brought the Filipino name to the international arena.
