When we first met Meiji Cruz in 2020, no one really thought she would come out and prove to the pageant fans that she was a force to be reckoned with in Binibining Pilipinas. In 2021 during the all-important preliminaries, Meiji literally showed why she was a candidate to watch out for.

The Rise of Meiji

Wearing the yellow swimsuit by designer Domz Ramos, Meiji definitely has the figure. But what caught everyone’s attention was how she sashayed as she walked down the stairs of the Novotel Poolside and made those turns and twirls by using the sashes in her arms.
Suddenly, everyone saw the potential of the girl from Valenzuela. She was on everyone’s hotpicks and was even interviewed on television. Meiji definitely got the attention.

Her interview on Road to the Crown hosted by Boy Abunda was good and picked up pointers along the way. These lessons are a big help now that she’s been getting hosting gigs and appearances on PTV 4.
And did we mention that Meiji went back to school? Even before joining Binibining Pilipinas, Meiji knew the importance of education and made sure to finish it. She even took up a master’s degree which she talked with the Qrown Philippines back in November 2021.

So close

During the coronation night last year, everyone thought Meiji would win a crown. She bagged the Best in Swimsuit award and getting the said award or the Best in Evening Gown normally gives pageant fans a clue that the girl was a shoo-in for one of the crowns.
And we all knew what happened from there. Meiji eventually placed 2nd runner-up and although she wasn’t going to compete in an international pageant, Meiji in everyone’s hearts was a winner. This win would open new doors for her.

Meiji attended events sponsored and required by the organization. The placement also allowed her to get modeling and hosting stints. She has also been invited by several groups to be a judge in their local pageants and recently hosted two activities of Bb. Pilipinas.

A winner in her own right

In just a week, Meiji is set to crown a runner-up who will take her place in being a companion to the queens. People often dubbed the runner-up as a spare tire in case something happens to the winners, but Meiji made the most of the opportunities. She went to school, accepted hosting stints, and is now enjoying the fruits of her labor.

With regards to her personal life, Meiji is very much happy with her loved ones, which she would post every now and then. Meiji is a queen in her own right and for us, she will truly live on as one of the titleholders of Binibining Pilipinas.

After all, as the saying goes, once a Binibini, always a Binibini.
