So much buzz was created by Herlene Nicole Budol or known by her monicker Hipon Girl during her Binibining Pilipinas stint. She was after all known as a comedian and host on Willie Revillame’s show Wowowin. But Herlene proved her detractors wrong and eventually won the lion’s share of awards last July 31.
Herlene is also now a Binibini and this year’s 1st runner-up. Not bad for a girl who had only 6 months to transform.

The announcement

Herlene confirmed early this year that she was set to join Bb. Pilipinas. With the backing Wilbert Tolentino who stands as her manager, Herlene underwent a full transformation courtesy of Rodgil Flores and his camp Kagandhang Flores.

Herlene was fortunate to pass the screening as part of the Top 40 candidates. She continued her extensive training and along with the other Binibinis participated in the activities.
The Qrown Philippines was also one of the first to interview Herlene about her decision to join Bb. Pilipinas. She also spoke about the criticism against her and about being firm to speak in Filipino if given the chance to make it to the Top 12.

Amakabongera

Herlene had some rough moments in her pageant journey. Although she looked regal during the Santacruzan, some of her actions in between the event did not please fans. There was also the controversial photoshoot where she wore an Afro wig which received backlash.
These comments made Herlene adjust how she carried herself in the next activities. She was able to get the Miss Blackwater award during their Ever Bilena visit and also did her song and dance number at the talent show.
Along the way, Herlene continued to earn more fans who cheered her on in her Binibini journey.

Kung Kaya Ko, Kaya Mo Rin

During the coronation night, Herlene was a shoo-in for a crown. She nabbed literally all the sponsor awards including the Jag Denim Queen, Bb. Kumu, Silka Award, and Manila Bulletin’s choice award.

She also got to speak her mind about what she wanted to see 6 years from now for the country. She also did well in the swimsuit and evening gown portions.

During the final question, judge Cecilio “Cece” Asuncion asked Herlene about what was the biggest transformation she had in Binibini. She was ready to answer it when Cece asked her if she wanted to translate it into Filipino. She said yes and answered in Filipino.
Because I know for myself that I am beautiful, that I am uniquely beautiful with a mission.
And true enough, Herlene got herself a podium finish as 1st runner-up. While many felt she should have gotten a crown, it seems that there is a possibility she might represent the Philippines soon based on the announcement made by Wilbert Tolentino recently. According to Wilbert, he asked permission from Binibining Pilipinas and has yet to give more details if it will push through.
In an Instagram post after the competition, Herlene shared: ” KUNG KAYA KO KAYA MO DIN. [Huwag] kang matakot na ipakita kung ano ang meron ka.”
And Herlene wasn’t afraid to show who she was. Now she is forever a Binibini and she has exceeded her and everyone’s expectations.
